New platform stores C2PA-signed originals byte-for-byte and issues public verification permalinks, solving social media metadata destruction.

Every major social platform destroys C2PA metadata on upload. We built C2PA Online so that cryptographic proof of content authenticity finally survives the moment it matters most -- public sharing.”

TOKYO, JAPAN, March 4, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- VeritasChain Co., Ltd. today announced the launch of C2PA Online (https://c2pa.online), a platform that preserves C2PA-signed media files byte-for-byte and issues permanent public verification links -- addressing the critical gap where social media platforms destroy cryptographic provenance data during upload.

■ The Problem: Social Media Destroys Content Provenance

Over 95% of major social media platforms strip C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) metadata when users upload images. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube all re-encode uploaded files, destroying the cryptographic signatures that cameras and software embed to prove who created content, when, and how.

This means a photojournalist shooting with a C2PA-enabled Sony or Leica camera loses all cryptographic proof the moment they share their work on social media. The provenance chain breaks precisely when it matters most -- at the point of public distribution.

While some platforms have begun reading C2PA data to display labels -- TikTok labels AI-generated content, LinkedIn shows a "CR" badge with signer details, and Meta displays "AI Info" tags -- none preserves the original C2PA manifest. Reading metadata and preserving it are fundamentally different. Users cannot independently verify the cryptographic chain on any major social platform today.

■ What C2PA Online Does

C2PA Online combines five capabilities that, based on independent research covering English and Japanese sources, C2PA specifications v1.0 through v2.3, CAI publications, and academic databases, have not been found together in any other publicly available platform as of March 2026:

First, byte-identical original preservation. Uploaded files undergo zero re-encoding, re-compression, or resizing. Every byte of the original C2PA manifest -- digital signatures, certificate chains, hash values, timestamps -- remains intact and independently verifiable at any time.

Second, public verification permalinks. Each upload receives a permanent URL (e.g., https://c2pa.online/verify/7rXk9mNp2QwYvB3sH8jT4a) accessible by anyone without account registration. Journalists and creators can attach this link to social posts, articles, or emails, enabling third-party cryptographic verification regardless of what the social platform does to the image.

Third, server-side cryptographic verification. At upload, the platform automatically verifies digital signature validity, certificate chain integrity (including CRL/OCSP revocation checks), hash-based tamper detection, edit chain consistency, and RFC 3161 timestamp validation using c2patool.

Fourth, a C2PA mandatory gate. Files without C2PA signatures are rejected at upload. Every piece of content on the platform carries cryptographic provenance by design.

Fifth, WORM immutable storage. Production infrastructure uses Amazon S3 Object Lock (Write Once, Read Many), making post-upload file tampering technically impossible.

■ How It Differs from Existing Services

Adobe's verify.contentauthenticity.org is a verification tool that explicitly does not store uploaded files. Sony Camera Verify offers verification URLs but is limited to Sony cameras and restricted to news organizations as a paid service. Numbers Protocol provides blockchain-based provenance but requires cryptocurrency (NUM tokens) and treats C2PA as an add-on. Pixelstream targets developers as a media version-control system, generates responsive image derivatives (breaking byte-identical preservation), and has no confirmed verification permalink pages. Starling Lab (Stanford/USC) operates through institutional research partnerships, not as a public consumer platform. Truepic is an enterprise SDK embedded in Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, not a consumer-facing sharing service.

C2PA Online is designed with provenance as its architectural foundation, not as a feature added to an existing platform.

■ Complementing C2PA's Soft Binding Evolution

C2PA specification v2.1 introduced Soft Binding, which uses invisible watermarks to recover manifests after social media re-encoding. C2PA Online's approach is complementary: while Soft Binding recovers metadata after destruction, C2PA Online preserves originals so destruction never occurs. With the Soft Binding ecosystem still in its earliest stages, C2PA Online provides an immediately practical solution.

■ Provenance Does Not Equal Truth

C2PA Online verifies content provenance -- who created something, when, with what device, and through what edits -- through cryptographic proof. It does not verify whether the depicted events are factual. This distinction is explicitly displayed in the platform's interface.

■ Supported Hardware and Software

C2PA Online accepts uploads from all C2PA-enabled devices and software, including Sony Alpha 9 III/Alpha 1, Leica M11-P, Nikon Z9/Z6 III, Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom/Firefly, and Qualcomm Snapdragon C2PA-enabled applications. Supported formats include JPEG, PNG, WebP, TIFF, and RAW.

■ About VeritasChain Co., Ltd.

VeritasChain Co., Ltd. develops digital content authenticity verification infrastructure. The company is also developing VeraSnap, a companion iOS camera app implementing the open Capture Provenance Profile (CPP) specification for cryptographic proof at the moment of capture.
